Chinmaya Mission Shree Mahavishnu Temple at Govindamangalam is located 15 kms from Trivandrum city on Pravachambalam-Ooruttambalam road.Name of Govindamangalam is derived from the name of the main Diety.The temple was constructed and Sree Vigraha installed by Koopakkaramadom Namboothiri nearly 1000 years ago. The speciality of the temple was Vatta sree kovil, shadadhara prathista and west darsan. The temple has a strong influence on the local population and the power of the deity is well known. Every Thursday large number of devotees throng the temple. The temple was deeply connected to the Royal family of Travancore.A Rajamudra located inside the temple compound, stands as a proof of its royal connection in . The Temple lost its significance on the decline of the Royal regime. For the progress of the temple, the legal representatives of the Koopakkara Madom handed over the temple with 51 cents of land to Chinmaya Mission Thiruvananthapuram in 1981. The Mission then removed the partially damaged Vigraha and a new Vigraha was installed in 1982.Chinmaya Mission appointed a poojari and regular poojas were performed in morning and evening every day. Special poojas were conducted weekly, monthly and also on Annual occasions. Sree mad Bhagavatha Sapathaha is being conducted every year since 1998 in the month of December.It is usually attended by a large number of devotees. Ramayana month is observed every year.
